As of January 2022, online sports betting is legal in 18 states.
There are a handful of states where sports betting is legal, but only in person.
Below is a the list of each state with legal online sports betting:
Arizona: Sports betting became legal for sportsbooks and mobile apps in Arizona on Sept. 9, 2021.
Colorado: Sports betting became legal in Colorado in May 2020.
Connecticut: Sports betting became legal in Connecticut on Oct. 19, 2021.
Illinois: Sports betting became legal in Illinois in June 2020.
Indiana: Online sports betting became legal in Indiana in October 2019.
Iowa: Online sports betting became legal in Iowa in August 2019.
Louisiana: Online sports betting became legal in Louisiana on Jan. 28, 2022.
Michigan: Online sports betting became legal in Michigan in January 2021.
Nevada: Online sports betting became legal in Nevada in 2010 with the launch of the first sports betting app. But gambling has been legal in the state since 1949.
New Hampshire: Online sports betting became legal in New Hampshire in late December 2019.
New Jersey: Online sports betting became legal New Jersey in August 2018. New Jersey was the state that pushed for legalized sports betting and was instrumental in the Supreme Court ruling in 2018. It now takes the most online sports wagers in the country, even more than Nevada.
New York: Online sports betting became legal in New York on Jan. 8 of this year with five mobile sports betting options.
Oregon: Online sports betting became legal in Oregon in August 2019. However, there is only one sports betting option in the state, which is controlled by the lottery.
Pennsylvania: Online sports betting became legal in Pennsylvania in May 2019.
Rhode Island: Online sports betting became legal in Rhode Island in late 2019.
Tennessee: Online sports betting became legal in Tennessee in November 2020.
Virginia: Sports betting became legal in Virginia in the spring of 2020, but you couldn’t actually place an online bet until January 2021.
West Virginia: Online sports betting became legal in West Virginia in August 2018.
Wyoming: Online sports betting became legal in Wyoming in September 2021.
